Industry and training facility involvement in coordinated tours has been brokered. Currently 26 industries and four training facilities are involved. Small groups of selected tour candidates with talents and aspirations suited to each specific tour, can observe the equipment used, the work environment and talk to qualified and experienced trades people and engineers about such things as skill development, training, job satisfaction, the financial rewards and the future prospects of working in the industry. As a result, tour candidates can make realistic and well-reasoned career decisions, break down the barriers to career entry and develop a visionary career outlook in that skills area of industry. Monitoring and tracking their progress in to an apprenticeship or training, improves their success.
The industries of the Kwinana and Henderson are working in synergy to provide the full gambit of tour experiences that range from the chemical industries laboratory tours to the composites and metal trades skills and engineers of the shipbuilding and engineering industries, also tours will include maritime industries related to the training of pilots, skippers, deckhands, marine architects and engineers. On the tours a segment from Challenger TAFE offers the opportunity for students to become familiar with enrolments, courses, training and the campus. Working together with a common understanding of the workforce shortage issue will create a pool of skilled young people to sustain future demand.

Coordinated Industry Tour Host Companies
A number or companies in the Kwinana and Henderson area are strong supporters of KIEP’s Coordinated Industry Tours.
These companies provide staff and time to talk to school students and the community about their organisations, the work carried out at their sites and the range of career opportunities available in their fields.
